Nottingham Castle: 1000 Years in 1000 Seconds

Professional project commissioned by Nottingham Castle as a Punch and Judy style show for Key Stage 1. This project began as a very simple puppet booth but as it progressed we added in more and more story telling elements such as shadow puppets and Japanese Kamishibai to keep our audience engaged and to differenciate different eras throughout the 1000 years of history we covered. This was so rewarding and enabled me to develop many new skills while working on my first professional project. The booth is designed to resemble a castle as it plays the important role of the castle character which has a lot of interaction with the audience members. The shadow screen is hidden behind the castle doors and is revealed in the second act telling the sotry of mortimer's hole. The puppeteer is able to leave through the curtains at the bottom of the booth which enables a smooth lead into turning the booth around to 'open up the gallery' This is something we were very keen to do so we could tell the history of puppets and celebrate the project as well as showing the audience what really ahppens inside a puppet booth.
