Soonchild is a devised piece by Red Earth Theatre, based on the book by Russel Hoban. This was a colaborative project between the year group, focusing around storytelling through shadow puppetry, with some physical puppetry involved to draw our audiences in and break up the flat screens. For this the team decided on making the Polar Bear as it is a pivotal point in the protagonists story. As the Bear appears during his 'Big Dream Trip' I decided to make the the bear 'ghost-like' with his ribs on show, the head is huge and eyeless to create an impact on the audience without the whole body. This puppet was made using mostly found materials including a pre-made backpack, polystyrene and plastic rods.
